National DRAC

Tucked away in one of Papua New Guinea's University is a small NGO which is responsible for pushing for the rights of people with disabilities. The National Disability Resource & Advocacy Centre strives for all people of PNG with all forms of physical and mental disabilities, to be included and to lead more fulfilling lives, by participating more actively in their communities.
The NDRAC team consists of three people as per the above photo, Bonnie Abola, Ian Apeit and Marleen Nelisse

National DRAC acts as a focal point for information gathering and sharing on disability issues. They provide information, resources and advice to people with disabilities, to their caretakers, to government institutions and international NGO’s. This is mostly done through the quarterly publication of The Network Magazine. The Network is used to advocate and lobby for the rights of people with disabilities. National DRAC also has a full page in the Post Courier on a fortnightly basis in which they write about disability issues in PNG.

Founded in 2006, National DRAC campaigns to promote a society which recognizes the equal rights and responsibilities of people living with disabilities in Papua New Guinea.

NDRAC is lobbying and networking with government departments and partner organizations in PNG and abroad to raise issues of disability awareness.

If you wish to contact NDRAC their email: NDRAC@dwu.ac.pg or if you want to receive any of their publications email: thenetwork@dwu.ac.pg

I share the same office with NDRAC and they have opened my eyes to the obstacles faced by persons living with disablilities.
